Code of Ethics 
 

Meditation Teacher Training - Yoga Essence

This Code of Ethics aims to provide guidance and clarity for individuals participating in Meditation Teacher Training with Yoga Essence ensuring that they uphold the highest standards of integrity, respect, and professionalism for while partaking in this training and behaviours expected when interacting with fellow class participants and members of the public.  Participants are expected to adhere to the following principles:

 

1. Professional Excellence

Participants will maintain a regular and dedicated personal meditation practice to deepen their understanding and experience of meditation techniques and practices and ongoing spiritual growth and continued studies.

 

2. Professional Integrity

Participants will act with honesty, transparency, and authenticity in their roles as meditation teachers and facilitators. They will not make false or derogatory assumptions concerning the practices of colleagues and clients.  If participants have feedback to offer, they will give it personally rather than publicly. They will respect all ethical professionals in speech, writing, or otherwise.  They will refrain from misrepresenting their qualifications, experience or the potential benefits of meditation practices.

 

3. Respect for Diversity

Participants will create and maintain an inclusive and welcoming environment that respects the cultural, religious and individual diversity of all participants and students.

Participants will be mindful of language and practices that may be exclusionary or offensive to certain groups and therefore do not discriminate against anyone regardless of their age, race, gender, sexual orientation, country of origin, religion, income, physical abilities or level of education. I strive to respect all peaceful religious beliefs and points of view.


4. Confidentiality

Participants will respect the privacy of personal information shared during training and refrain from disclosing such information without explicit consent.  They will use and maintain honest, appropriate and professional communications in all verbal, non-verbal and written transactions with students, establishing clear objectives and boundaries. They will keep all student information strictly confidential, including information found on registration forms and in any notes of the students’ participation.

 

5. Boundaries and Professional Conduct

Participants will establish and maintain appropriate boundaries with fellow participants, trainers and students.  They will avoid any form of harassment, discrimination, or inappropriate behaviour during the training.  By taking on the role of a teacher, they will offer a safe environment for a student’s personal expression and give ample opportunity for each to ask questions and share their experiences. When sharing information, teachers will let students know when it is their personal opinion or when the information shared is supported by third party research.  By taking the role of a meditation teacher, participants will take responsibility for maintaining clarity for their students.

 

6. Continuous Learning and Growth

Participants commit to ongoing learning and professional development to enhance their teaching skills and deepen their knowledge of meditation practices.  They will actively seek feedback and engage in self-reflection to identify areas for improvement.

 

7. Safety and Wellbeing

Participants will prioritize the physical and emotional well-being of students during all training sessions and classes.  They will create a safe and supportive environment, addressing any concerns or challenges that may arise.

 

8. Lawful Compliance

Participants will obey all State and Local Laws. They agree to maintain accurate and truthful accounting and student records and adequate professional indemnity insurance cover.  They accept complete responsibility for their actions.

 

9. Community Engagement

Participants will contribute positively to the meditation and mindfulness community, promoting collaboration, compassion, and mutual support.  They will share their knowledge responsibly and ethically, avoiding the exploitation of meditation practices for personal gain.

 

10. Accountability and Resolution

10.1 Participants will take responsibility for their actions, promptly addressing any ethical concerns or grievances that may arise during the training.  Grievances will be dealt with by way of Grievance procedure as outlined 10.2

10.2  In the first instance, grievances between Students and Teachers must be privately brought to the Teachers attention, discussed professionally and reasonably to reach a mutual positive outcome. In the event of a dispute between fellow students, the said members should make every effort to resolve differences.

They will engage in a constructive resolution process, seeking mediation or guidance when needed.

 

By adhering to this Code of Ethics, participants in and from this Teacher Training commit to fostering a community built on trust, integrity, and respect.

This code serves as a foundation for creating a supportive environment that promotes the ethical and effective teaching of meditation practices.
